Increase Web Site Traffic Tips Part3

It is sometimes laughable at all the tricks new webmasters employ to get traffic to a new website or Blog, and then just as soon have the visitor leave. Whereas, the application of simple SEO techniques will keep these valued visitors at their site.

Increase Website Traffic Tips Part3 is dedicated to a few free or affordable search engine optimization techniques which, if “consistently” applied, should not only bring valuable targeted traffic to your Blogger Blog and new Website, but keep them there!

Memorize these free search engine optimization techniques and apply them to every single Post and Article you write, and not only will your Posts be indexed quickly, but if done correctly you will enjoy Top10 Search Engine rankings for each Post and the bonus of targeted Search Engine traffic from the Search Engines that count:

  • Do a search at the Overture or Wordtracker free tools for a current “searched for” keyphrase before you begin. If you are unsure how to do this, please email - I am happy to help.

Or download the free Good Keywords tool to your desktop - Good Keywords uses Overture for its results.

  • The title of your article must be relevant, not misleading and contain the keyphrase you are writing the Post on with no extraneous words at all.

Simply leave out unnecessary verbs, adjectives and stick to the keyphrase only. Forget “cute” titles, they earn you nothing, certainly not the desired Top10 rankings at Google, Yahoo and MSN.

  • The first 25 words of your Post must contain all the words of the title/keyphrase and it is preferable they are contained in the very first opening sentence.
  • Repeat your title/keyphrase at least twice in the body of the article, and apply the bold tag to the keyphrase a couple of time in the body of the Post.

Do not go “crazy” with applying bold or italics formatting to your keyphrase . A 2% - 4% repetition of a keyphrase in the article is recommend.

Google is stricter in this regard and no more than a 2% repetition of the keyphrase, is recommended. Yahoo and MSN are more forgiving and even welcome around a 4% repetition of the keyphrase in the body of the article.

  • Highlight a secondary keyphrase in the article a couple of times via “italics” or “bold” (this can be a secondary keyphrase or keyword centered around the theme of your Blog or website).
  • Use an H1 tag for the title .. that is the heading, at the very top of your Post [which must contain the keyphrase]. Also apply H2 tags to the subheadings within the body of the Post, which should contain the keyphrase or secondary keyphrases for the Article.
  • Last, but not least, the very last closing sentence of the Post or Article must include the keyphrase, some SE specialists even hint at repeating it twice in the closing sentence.

For the purpose of your Blogger blog, if you have changed the Template source code to ensure that the title of your Post is shown as a Permalink in the Footer, this will suffice, as the search engine spiders will see you are in fact repeating the keyphrase or title at the very end of the Post.

(Refer to the bottom of every Post in this Marketing Defined blog for an example of how the title of each post is repeated as the Permanent link),

Off Page optimization is the other critical half of SEO, and how to correctly exchange links with other webmasters will be covered in the very next few Posts on this Marketing Defined Blog

If you religiously stick to the above, each and every time you sit down to write an Article, Press Release or Post to your Blog - your search engine optimization and internet marketing efforts will reward you with the bonus of high Search Engine rankings and a valuable Increase in Website Traffic.

For newcomers to the blogoshpere and website optimization, I recommend you pick up and apply the valuable tips outlined in the first and second part of this series: Increase Website Traffic Tips Part1 and Increase Website Traffic Tips Part2

How to keep website visitors at your Blog:

  • The title of your Blog post should not be hyperlinked to anything other than that very same Post on your Blog.

If your Post refers to an Article by another author hosted on a website other than yours, do not allow the title to be hyperlinked to that person’s article. The title of your Post should only be linked to your Blog or domain.

Try clicking on the link on the title of this Post you are reading, and see where it brings you - Yes! you guessed right, it brings you back to this Post as it correctly should.

  • Spend some time, editing all your posts, and hyperlink your titles to that particular Post.

If your blog template is not set up to repeat the title, at the top of Post - then please ensure you repeat the title keyphrase in the first 25 words of the actual body of the Post.

  • You must alter the HTML of all hyperlinks leading to outside articles and posts to have them open on a new webpage.

Here’s how you do this by adding a “target=”_blank” to the HTML of the hyperlink.

Therefore if you wanted to send a visitor to my Marketing Defined main website for example this is how the HTML should read for the URL:
    [a href="http://marketingdefined.com/" target="_blank"]Marketing Defined[/a] - please change all the [ ] to the correct brackets.

This was the only way the correct HTML could be displayed without making it a live link.

Employ the above target code for all URL’s leading to another website, and your Blog page will stay opened underneath, allowing your visitors to return to the Post, once they examine your referenced article.

In closing this post on affordable or free search engine optimization techniques - it is imperative to stick to a consistent theme for the topics you choose to write about in a Blog.

There is certainly not much point in including an article on SEO or Increasing Website Traffic, if that is not your field of expertise, and your Blog is not themed around this subject. There is nothing worse than misleading your audience, and you get absolutely no points at all from Google for the irrelevancy.

The tips provided in the series Increase Website Traffic Tips are invaluable - these affordable search engine optimization tips have been instrumental in gaining many high search engine rankings for this Blog.

It may seem like a lot of work - but the results are huge in your endeavour to increase targeted, free search engine traffic to your website.
