How Blogarama enticed Googlebot to spider my blog!
How Blogarama enticed Googlebot to return and spider my blog
:
Blogarama - The Blog Directory

There has been a huge amount of publicity generated recently as to how Blogs and RSS feeds can attract higher search engine rankings, if not instantaneous visits by the top Search Engine’s spiders, like Googlebot, to your blog and associated websites!
A number of self-proclaimed Blog optimization experts seem to have sprung up around us to capitalize on this new trend.
Whilst listening to an online seminar recently, I was privy to the following tip which if applied accurately will encourage a visit by the Googlebot spider in around 24 hours at the outset:
Firstly publish a number of content rich posts related to the keyphrase or topic your Blog is centred around .. and each post should be carefully optimized around a selected key phrase [refer previous post clearly outlining the simple search engine optimization for Posts]
Recommendation is around 20 - 25 posts prior to submission to Blogarama - although it worked for me with a lesser number … and we are talking posts with unique related content.
Simply linking to other blogs/posts using trackback might entice the search engine spiders, but will keep your most wanted commodity — repeat visitors — away!
Then submit your Blog to the Blogarama directory.
Within approx. 24 hours of this submission, the Googlebot spider will grace your blog with its presence … but a word of caution for a new blog; if you want Google to keep returning, it is essential you post at least daily or every other day… otherwise regrettably ..
.. just as soon as you see Googlebot, it will disappear and will take some enticing via other legitimate search engine optimization techniques to return to your blog and domain.
Please leave a comment to advise if this has worked for you … and as to the frequency of the Googlebot spider’s visits after submission to the Blogarama directory..

Update 2008: Due to the ever-changing nature of this Internet.. an updated recommendation, in addition to the above solitary submission, is to submit your new Blog to a large number of Blog and RSS directories, as soon as you have your published your first 10 - 20 posts of solid and unique content. Then the then only… both from a Search Engine and prospective repeat visitor’s view, is it advisable to include advertising sources like Google Adsense.

Hi Andy
The benefits of a Blog, as compared to a website, are many. Primarily; The search engines love Blogs as they are updated often and therefore feed the search engine spiders with “new content” on a daily or regular basis, which is what they are hungry for…
Once you have submitted the RSS feed address of your new Blog to My Yahoo for example, you can count on speedy indexing of your Blog to begin with.
Then, as the search engine spiders usually index the content within your Blog a lot quicker than a normal website (The Google, Yahoo and MSN spiders visit this Blog on a daily basis), it is possible to have new affiliate products (for example) that you write about, via a link in your Blog, indexed in the search engines within 48 hours.
The above would be one reason to use a Blog as a marketing tool over that of a “normal” website.
However, as always it is important to ensure:
1. Proper HTML coding for your entire Blog - particularly for MSN search, who place a great deal of importance on proper coding. ( refer to this post for Valid html code - how to check your code is correct )
2. Each post in your Blog is optimized, and selection of popular and regularly searched for “keyphrases” should be used in the “body” of each post - always remembering, that your audience is the primary reason for the Blog, and providing them with useful content that will impact upon making a positive change to their lives, must be the number one reason for writing. Incorporating keyphrases in the Post, is secondary.
For example: If you want to be found in the Search Engines for the keyphrase “easy instructions to move a Blog to Wordpress” - first make sure the “title” tag of the post includes all those words like so — “Easy Instructions to Move Your Blog To Wordpress”. Then repeat that sentence in the first and last paragraphs of your Post.. and if it reads easily without sounding un-natural, it pays to use those keywords one more time in the middle of the Post - however, please do not annoy and turn off visitors to your Blog, by stuffing your Post with keywords.
Here is a great Post that covers required optimization for a Blog:

Provided you are work within the guidelines of legitimate SEO practices, following the above rules will ensure that your Posts get decent s.e. rankings

This is an old blog post and worked at the time this post was written… however, with the changing nature of the w.w.w. and internet marketing in particular, just simply getting your new blog mentioned on another successful blog that is currently spidered by Google, should ensure a visit from Googlebot
