Smarty Blogs farcical contest is over
An overload of work emanating from the recent burnout of my hardware has seen the Marketing Defined blog sadly neglected in the past few days.
The announcement of Smarty Blogs Aussie blogger for 2005 has the entire Blogging community in an uproar, and quite rightly so.
I am not giving the winner the dignity of a mention here, but a struggling Artist, who has Government funding to travel the world and write about “singing bridges” is not IMHO a worthy winner. And then this upstart has the gall to knock the very system which handed her precious Government funding for her frivolous project (read Tim Blair’s referenced post further on)
UPDATE: My perverted sense of humour has got me banned from ever being employed again by ( “hang on” I want to make sure I get the spelling right) the collective writing team at the “LavartusProdeo” blog — via the comments field beneath Darren’s post on the SmartyBlogs Aussie blogger of the Year 2005.
I did offer to bring my daily subscribers to instantly double their stats, but the entire LarvatusProdeo.redrag.net Corporation of bloggers have decreed they will never employ me.
Phew! thankfully loyal clients had already showered pity on me, so I might keep my family in rags until at least the middle of 2006.
What a faux paz on my part! I commented ever so innocently, that the Lavartus Prodeo Blog’s home page took 3 minutes to load (on my humble ADSL connection), and in the very same breath complimented the journalistic and research abilities of Tim Blair. All the time, not realising the theme of both blogs is “politics”… (that’s politics of the type which governs our fair and wonderful country) One hopes it’s friendly and civil competition at the very least.
Here’s a good one for you twisted folk.. the writers at LarvatusProdeo have promised complimentary S&M.. you may choose between spanking, cuddling and tweaking of nipples - and the price? you simply have to cast a vote for their LP blog to beat Tim Blair’s blog in the Oz Blog Keks award for 2006. You guessed right, the category both blogs are vying to win is “politics”.
Time is short, and I’ll direct you to Darren’s accurate (although way tooo polite) synopsis of the farcical judging process - available at Problogger (my comments, the attacks and retractions are at the bottom of that Post :-) .. and then read Tim Blair’s comments . I agree 100% with Tim Blair’s skilful research and journalistic skills… besides I am compelled to side with a “lone” Blogger.
And if you need some refreshing mirth (once you get over the illegalities in the judging process), published by Professor Bunyip is yet another skilful evalutation of why this contest should be declared a “mistrial”.
There has to be a talented “legal eagle” amongst us bloggers… to give Smarty Host Blogs a well deserved kick in their pants. I say take the prize back, open up the competition to a nation of Bloggers and accept our democratic vote.
AND by the way - Blogging has gone way beyond the recording of a household diary! IMHO, the bedroom drawer is a good place to hide such a personal journal.
The owner of Smarty Webhosts has been invited to reply to the irate Australian blogging community! Alas, his reply is now long overdue… or has he been gagged!

:-) Great post, Roseanne. I wonder if there is any crossover with the Oscars committee…
